Meet the people running the show for you here at Marketing4Insurance. We have assembled an amazing group of dedicated individuals to help carry out your marketing programs.
John joined the US Navy in 1962 just in time for Vietnam and spent 8 years in the service. After the Navy, in 1971 John worked for Electronic Data Systems Corp in Dallas, TX. At the time EDS was owned by H. Ross Perot who ran for US president in 1992. In 1973 John joined AT&T and spent 17 years with the company most of the time in management.
John started Marketing4insurance in 1987 before there was a dot com world almost by accident. His wife, Barbara, was working as a new Farmers Insurance agent in Orange County, CA. One night she was cold calling and it was painful to listen to - 10 negative calls to obtain one yes. There had to be a better way.
A data source for homeowner leads was found and data enhancement software was written using programming skills developed at EDS and college. The data was merge printed onto letters and mailed to prospects based on estimated homeowner renewal data.
The results were outstanding. His wife's insurance agency grew from almost no clients to over 2,500 in just a few years. She won many awards for insurance sales. In 1995 we moved from Orange County, CA to Lane County, Oregon (Eugene and Springfield - Barbara is an Oregon graduate and native), where we are presently located.
"I enjoy Sporting Clays (clay target shooting) competition, fly-fishing, travel, long-range precision rifle shooting, and reading great books. But my favorite enjoyment is being with my wife, Barbara and daughter, Rachel."
Barbara is a graduate of the University of Oregon. In 1987 while beginning her career as a Farmers Insurance agent, she helped develop the concepts for direct mail marketing for selling insurance policies.
After 29 years with Farmers, it was time to move on. Now she is back with MBM, looking at potential new products and services.
"I enjoy gardening and have been growing some yummy green beans and cherry tomatoes! I am also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), speaking for foster children in court. I have read every day since learning how to. Being part of this happy family is my greatest joy."
I grew up in Montana, loving the wide-open spaces, clean mountain air...and of course, skiing (no snowboards back in my day).
My family ended up moving to California before my high school graduation, which was a bit of a culture shock for me. I wanted to get out of the city, but also wanted to take advantage of in-state tuition, so for college I landed at Humboldt State University, on the northern California coast. The redwoods, rugged coastline and small-town atmosphere were just what I was looking for. I met my wife while attending HSU, and we stayed in the area for quite a few years after graduation.
I always had an interest in maps and cartography, so my bachelor's degree was in Geography. However, a couple years into that program I realized I would have to get a job after graduation, so I added a minor in Computer Information Systems and a post-baccalaureate certificate of study in Geographic Information Systems. My background in computers has been invaluable in my professional career, and I have also enjoyed building computers and playing video games in my free time.
My wife and I moved to Eugene, OR in 2006, so she could pursue a master's degree at the University of Oregon. I started working at Marketing by Mail that same year, in the production department. I have worked my way up through the company over the last decade, from the production and mailroom department, through customer service and graphic design work, to the sales and marketing rolls I do today. I run the business on a day-to-day basis. Working 1-on-1 with customers to help them achieve their goals has always been what gives me the most satisfaction.
My wife and I had a daughter in 2009 and a son in 2012, so I do not really have any free-time anymore...but when I am not at work, I enjoy cooking and baking (I always keep a sourdough starter going in the fridge), playing Legos with the kids (I won't say that getting to play with Legos again is the best thing about having kids, but it has got to be right up there), playing darts, and tinkering with computers.
Brian Hester, an expert in many forms of computer aided art, is the Print Production Manager and Graphic Designer at Marketing by Mail. Prior to working at MBM, Brian traveled throughout the Pacific Northwest working as a Freelance Graphic Designer and Video Editor.
Brian studied Digital Arts and Business Administration at the University of Oregon, earning his Bachelor's Degree in 2007. In 2008, he and his brother Kurtis founded Vagabond Skateboards, a skateboard deck recycling company, creating an array of unique products up-cycled from used wood laminates and aimed at reducing waste in the industry, a project that he is still passionate about today.
"In my spare time, I enjoy getting outdoors and taking part in many of the great recreational activities that Oregon has to offer including but not limited to fishing, hiking, swimming, or just exploring the open road."
